And then with the, ah, games, we were all a little distracted. [ He's going to laugh about Xie Lian lifting Wolf all week. ] I'm sure he'd be happy to teach you, still. It'd give him a chance to talk about swordsmanship.
[ Hua Cheng comes to put two fingers on the underside of Ochako's wrist, straightening her arm out so that the sword is an extension of her. ]
The jian is meant to be a versatile weapon, to cut and jab and stab with, so being on the lighter side makes it easier to wield.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting everyone to show up. We only planned for you two and the girls, you know? But it was just meant to be a fun night, anyway, so it all worked out.
[ certain embarrassments aside!! she'll gladly let hc adjust her hold, though, because he is the expert here. ]
Versatile's probably better for someone who's never used a sword before, right?
I can understand why gege was invited. [ because he's just so nice to be around ] But I won't question why I was, since it was fun even before everyone else showed up.
[ There's only small adjustments that he makes, here and there, just to let her see the weight of the sword and how it might balance in her hand. ]
En. It also suits someone of your size, in this case - you've got strength to you, so something light that you can turn that strength into force with would catch anyone off guard.
It wouldn't be fair not to invite both of you, and I'm pretty sure Tsukino-san just wanted to play with your hair. I'm glad you guys had fun, though!
[ she's gonna try holding it in both hands to give it a slow, controlled swing. ]
You really think I'm that strong?
[ it surprises her a bit? people are nice to her face, but they still tend to think she's a fragile little girl instead of a h̴̖͓̻̘̞̼̻̔̇́̀͆̇̽̂̽̕͝e̶̢̨̛̘͇͖͔̫̤͎̭͔̓͗̂̾̏̕͜͜r̸̬̠͈̞̒͑̒̑͠͝ơ̶̬̮͍͒̊̔͒ͅ - martial artist. ]
She was pretty invested in just combing my hair out and doing things with it, wasn't she. [ Which was - fine. He had accepted that was going to be his fate. ] But it was fun.
[ He steps aside, holding his hand out for his daemon. It flutters, and alights on his knuckles, but both of them still when she asks that question. His expression is a little... bemused, maybe. ]
Do people tell you you aren't? You're young, which means you've got the room to grow, and still I wouldn't call you weak. That "quirk" of yours isn't a combative one, maybe, but you want to learn, and it's not as if you're scrawny or delicate. It's obvious that you're training.
It's because you have so much, and you take really good care of it.
[ . . . ]
Most people say that I'm fragile and soft and stuff. Not just because of my quirk - I think they look at me and how I act and just assume that I can't fight. I can't blame them for it; I may not be scrawny, but I don't really look that strong. And my quirk being what it is probably makes it easier to accept.
[ she doesn't. ochako has always been curves and soft edges. and she's friendly, so without any obvious musculature or sharpness to her, it's easy to see where they get that assumption, but no less frustrating. ]
It's annoying sometimes, but... it's still something I can use.

[ xl always seems happy to teach her, but she isn't going to just assume. she'll take the jian, though, to test the weight. ]
...It's lighter than I expected.
