Thanks, Uraraka-san. It's nice to have something to look forward to.
[He doesn't really care about powers, usually, but he'll ask - ]
I don't know if you remember, but can you tell me about your powers? I met someone once who could control gravity and make black holes. . . it seemed a little more like your teacher, though.
Oh, sure. My quirk is Zero Gravity, so I can make things float when I touch them.
[ she'll hold her hand out so he can see her finger beans! ]
When I activate it, the weight of what I touch is removed until I release it again. There's a limit to how much I can lift at once, but I think I'm up to around five tonnes now, after practicing?
[Whoa. Beans! Anyway, he's just nodding. His secret is that he finds conversations about powers like - incredibly uninteresting, since he kind of hates them! He's missing his memories of how much it hurt his feelings when a girl he liked thought his powers were boring, but he's still internalized the idea that they are boring, and nobody who isn't shallow would care, along with the idea that they're also dangerous.
But. . . hers don't seem boring. It seems like something important to her, that she's proud of, even if she doesn't remember that she also uses them to save people. It's nice, to listen to someone talk about something about themself they're proud of, that they've been working hard at. If she'd told him she was a good artist, and she'd been working hard to learn a difficult technique, he'd be impressed, so - why should it be any different just because it's her abilities?
It's something that gives him a little pause. His own internalized dislike of powers - he can't possible view her in the same negative light he views himself.]
That's incredible. Five tonnes, that's like. . . [Trying to think of something big.] An elephant?
. . . I used to like floating things like that, too. Animals if they weren't scared, or my little brother. I always get motion sickness if I do it to myself, though.
Hm... Yeah, I could probably lift an elephant if I wanted to.
[ the mental image makes her laugh a little, actually? a floating elephant...
but then mob keeps talking. her eyes widen in surprise, and a moment later she lights up with excitement. no one's ever gotten it before!! ]
You too?! [ she had no idea he had a similar power! or a similar side effect, for that matter. ] It's so hard! I've been trying to get better at it, but it takes so long to get used to, doesn't it?!
[The mental image is cute to him, too! A floating elephant!]
Mm! I've been able to do it if I have to - [In the memory he shared, he flew around a bit and also flew a car in the air. But outside of his 100% state, lifting himself is not something he usually does.] but it's hard to do it without getting dizzy. Ritsu never got sick from it, but. . . that was only when we were kids. I can't use my powers on Ritsu anymore, so I haven't done it for fun in a long time.
[ that's. a valid reason to stop. but she gives a thoughtful hum. ]
To me, though, that would just be one more reason to get better at controlling it, you know? So no one would get hurt if you used that power again - and so neither of you would feel uncomfortable with it, either.
[It's a little more complicated than that. Ritsu was seriously injured.]
I've been trying since then to get better, but I don't know if I've improved much. My. . . master isn't really an expert on controlling powers like he said he was.
Mm... See, it sounds to me like you just need somewhere safe to test out your powers while you work on it, you know? Somewhere that you can do whatever you need to push the limits or fine-tune your control without having to worry about hurting someone. Isn't your master giving you a place like that?
I recently realized that master has been taking advantage of me. He doesn't really have powers of his own. So even though he said he could teach me, I don't think he was being honest.

[He smiles a little at the idea. But then again - ]
Except. . . I'd be too nervous to go to those classes on my own. I wouldn't know anyone. So you should come, too.
no subject
Those classes aren't really for me... but I can ask my teachers, anyway. If I was there for research before, there's no reason not to go again.
no subject
Then that really sounds like fun.
no subject
Okay. Then I'll talk to them first thing when I get back.

[ unfair! ]
How come you can't, though? Is he too heavy now?
[ but mob's powers are so strong... ]
no subject
[He hesitates for a moment, but. She's been honest with him so far.]
There was an accident. Ritsu got hurt, and after that neither of us liked doing that kind of thing anymore.

[Okay, he'll just. Give her the full lore.]
I recently realized that master has been taking advantage of me. He doesn't really have powers of his own. So even though he said he could teach me, I don't think he was being honest.
no subject
And you stayed with him? Why not try to find a new master who can actually help you?
no subject
[He looks kind of frustrated by that.]
I think this is something I've forgotten.
no subject
In that case, let's talk about it again later, okay? When we remember everything. Then we can figure it out together.
no subject
[It's bothering him a lot now, but she has a point. He won't be able to understand without the missing piece, will he?]
