[ how curious!! he comes to scoot over next to her, kneeling down so he can look at the book. ] What a very useful skill, Miss Ochako. Have you lost your speech, this week?
[ she waves her hand in a "sort of" motion? then holds up one finger as she digs out her phs to type something. a minute later, she shows xie lian her notes app:
it started this morning. before now, it was touch. ]
Oh! How curious. I've had the same thing for the past two days, but you are not the first person I've seen have it change. I wonder if mine will do the same, eventually...
[ hm. he'd rather not be blind, for the sake of... bad luck reasons, but the rest of it would probably not be a big deal. for the moment, he's just more annoyed. ]
Hopefully, this won't last you too long, Miss Ochako. At least we have these lovely devices, yes?
Not really. Truth be told, it's been a while since I've had access to this much information without asking someone for it, first.
[ he has tried to reach up to his forehead and contact ling wen like at least six times since he got here. it's fine. some habits are hard to break. ]
But I've learned that some of the books are from other worlds, like your own, or Won's, or a million other places I've never been to. I've been reading here and there - they're quite interesting.
What about you, Miss Ochako? Just here to learn about medicine?
[ he doesn't laugh or anything, but winces, sympathetically... been there. ]
I'm sorry... really, that that place is full of traps is quite bizarre, isn't it...? Were you trying to help collect arrows like some of the others? Or just exploring?
[ It's the classes at my school meant to support the hero course. We make stuff for them, and help with their equipment so they're more efficient and don't get injured so badly.
I'm not that great at it, though, so I figured learning to help fix them up would be useful, at least. ]
[ he can't help it this time; xie lian's face falls.
he recovers quickly, though, turning away from her briefly as if to flit through the books she'd gathered.
xie lian had had a long conversation with ochako about what it meant to be a hero. it colored their entire interaction, and was one of the reasons why he bonded to her so easily; he admired her spirit, and the fact that even though she was unsure, she continued to walk forward along that path, to learn along it.
to take someone's growth from them so easily... the realm is really, unbelievably cruel.
he's careful to keep the loss out of his voice. there's not much else to feel beyond a sadness, a sympathy, and a deep dislike for the way the realm just takes, and takes, and takes. ] ...Why did you choose the support course? I don't think you told me.
[ this question requires some thought before answering in full. she's slow to type out a reply, pausing and backspacing here and there as she works it out.
my parents have a construction company, but since people started developing quirks, they haven't gotten as much business. all my life, they've been struggling to make ends meet, and I thought, with my quirk, I could help them. but my dad told me to follow my own dream instead. he insisted on it.
my quirk is best for support, not offense or reconnaissance or even information gathering. with it, I can lift almost anything, so I thought with all the things that heroes need to get their job done, I could help there. and helping my classmates build stuff for heroes... it's kind of like construction, and there's good money in it, so I'll still be able to support my parents like I always wanted to. and the best part is that I don't have to be in danger like heroes always are, so they won't have to worry about my safety any more than usual. ]

she's curious! but to answer his question, she gives a nod.
I wanted to help Archer-san, but I shouldn't go back into the jungle with my leg like this.

Claude is a very honorable young man - I am glad, that he was there to help you.
[ doesn't this feel like talking to your dad about your dokis? terrible. ]

me, too. he showed me how to remove the arrow, so I should be able to help Archer-san if something happens this week!
yes, let's focus on that part. she does look rather pleased by it, embarrassment aside! ]

i mean. xie lian tilts his head. ]
Helping out Archer? Do you mean like what happened in the first week...?
